Consultation on busy crossroad improvements

Improvements are proposed for the crossroad at the junction of Englishcombe Lane, Sladebrook Avenue and Kingsway to try and reduce vehicle speeds at this busy junction.

Following local residents contacting the Oldfield Ward Liberal Democrat Team, we have persuaded the Council to fund improvements at this junction to make it safer for pedestrians and all other road users. Local campaigner Will Sandry and Cllr Shaun McGall met with a Council Officer on site a few weeks ago to discuss possible options. Some local residents also gave their input to these discussions at this meeting.

The proposals include extending the pavement outside 42 / 43 Sladebrook Avenue, and installing a 30 mph “Slow Down” variable message sign further along Englishcombe Lane towards Southdown. Further design work to reduce traffic speeds at this crossroads is currently being investigated by Council officers on behalf of your local Councillors.

Local residents have expressed to Will, Shaun and Ruth their concerns about the speedf traffic on this crossroads and I hope that these initial proposals to improve the safety at the junction will help reduce speeding traffic and the potential for future accidents.”

We would welcome and appreciate any comments from residents on this proposal by Friday 1st December 2006, so that these safety measures can be implemented as soon as possible
