Tunnel vision could be decided by vote on TV

The success of a project to re-open two disused railway tunnels and turn them into a route for cyclists and walkers could be decided by a TV vote according to todays Bath Chronicle.

The Two Tunnels Shared Path working group is planning to create a level route from Midford to Oldfield Park (Linear Park) through the two currently closed railway tunnels on the old Somerset and Dorest railway line.

It held is second meeting last week, when members looked at funding options. A bid has been made by the sustainable transport charity Sustrans to gain lottery funding for the project.

The current feasibility study has been funded by the Council.

The proposed path would join the Bristol to Bath cycle route, as well as the Colliers Way (National Cycle Network route 24) at Mildford and route 4, which goes west from Bath along the Kennet and avon Canal.

Cllr Gitte Dawson, (Lib Dem, Bathavon South), chairman of the Two tunnels Sahred Path group believes that this exciting project depands on the good co-operation among a great number of people and so far they are all on board with great enthusiasm.

Will, Shaun and Ruth would like to know your thoughts on this project.

Action on Parking

Cllrs Shaun McGall and Ruth Griffiths have fianlly persuaded the Executive Member for Transport Cllr Sir Elgar Jenkins to consult with local residents about introducing a Residents' Parking Scheme in parts of Oldfield Ward. Parking has got worse since the last consultation took place over 5 years ago and everyone who is consulted this time needs to take part and ensure that their views are registered with the Council and us your local Councillors. Residents should look out for the formal consultation questionnaires which should come through your doors in October 2006.
